For 70 years, the demand for U.S. electricity has increasingly been decoupled from economic growth. But that trend is about to be reversed, driven by burgeoning data center development, a resurgence in energy-intensive manufacturing, and wider electrification. Technology C-suite executives – used to moving at lightning speed – are realizing that energy may be the largest constraint on their growth. This presentation will provide:
- An assessment of the potential range of electricity demand wanting to connect to the power system over the next five years
- The dynamics unique to power markets that will make it very difficult to meet this demand growth
- Early indications of some of the innovations that are taking place to meet this growth
- Suggestions on policy recommendations
